7th Annual

Senior Santa 2018

December 4th was a day of warmth and smiles, friends and food, gifts and Santa! Thanks to the community, the generosity of our donors and our 68 volunteers, this year’s Senior Santa event helped to provide a Merry Christmas to 42 very grateful El Dorado County seniors with limited income who often need assistance getting out. Each senior was given a gift card from Friends of Seniors to purchase gifts for family and loved ones, or much needed items for themselves. See more photos.

Seniors were partnered with one or two Friends of Seniors’ volunteers who transported them and helped them shop, often maneuvering a walker or wheelchair. Special Santa sacks to carry home their purchases were made by High Sierra Quilters.

After the Walmart shopping trip, everyone headed to the Green Valley Community Church Café, where church members had prepared a delicious turkey dinner for us, complete with pumpkin pie. Gold Country Retirement Community was kind enough to cover the cost of the food, and Boa Vista Orchards generously donated apple cider. Walmart and Grocery Outlet donated gift wrapping supplies.

Warm and friendly smiles filled the room, as laughter and stories were shared throughout the afternoon. There was plenty of help on hand to wrap gifts, serve drinks, and do whatever was needed to make it a very special day.

Santa (Uncle Fuzzy) arrived, delighting everyone as he walked around the room greeting the seniors. Each senior then had the opportunity to sit and chat with Santa as he passed out handmade gifts by volunteers Ruth Ann Morris and Louise Butler.

Friends of Seniors is extremely grateful to Walmart, Green Valley Community Church, Gold Country Retirement Community, Grocery Outlet, Boa Vista Orchards and High Sierra Quilters for their part and their contributions in helping make our 7th Annual Senior Santa such a special day for everyone who attended.

Friends of Seniors would like to thank ALL of our donors and volunteers who helped make this a truly memorable day for participants. Senior Santa 2018 will be remembered as a very special day in the lives of 42 seniors.

We truly have a loving, caring and generous community.
