Supporting Seniors

  • Community Grant Program

    Through an annual competitive grant program, Friends of Seniors awards grants to non-profits and government agencies serving seniors.

  • Senior Emergency Fund

    Friends of Seniors has developed a Senior Emergency Fund to help seniors in cases of an unforeseen crisis. Referrals for this program come from non-profits or government agencies.

  • Senior Defensible Space Assistance

    Program by El Dorado County Fire Safe Council (EDCFSC) to help create defensible space around the homes of qualifying seniors. Check back for updates.

Adult Protective Services

Provides assistance to elderly and dependent adults who are functionally impaired, unable to meet their own needs or are victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

CalFresh Program

Provides financial assistance to help low-income individuals buy the food they need for good health. The program issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy most foods at food markets and stores.

Commission on Aging

The Commission works with the Director of the Area Agency on Aging on community interests and issues faced by seniors in El Dorado County. This includes, but is not limited to, developing community centers in strategic areas of the county to make services accessible to all seniors.

El Dorado Transit

Provides public transportation to the Western slope of El Dorado County. Fixed route and dial-a-ride services provide mobility in the communities of Placerville, Diamond Springs, Cameron Park, Pollock Pines, El Dorado Hills, and commuter service..

Family Caregiver Support Program

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

Multipurpose Senior Service Program (MSSP)

MSSP serves older adults who are 65 and better, qualify for Medi-Cal with an eligible aid code (typically no share-of-cost), reside in El Dorado County, and benefit from assistance with 3 or more daily living tasks for their safety.

Public Guardian

Provides services that are defined and directed by the Probate Division of the Superior Court, contingent upon the appointment of the Public Guardian as conservator for an individual by the Superior Court.

Senior Health Education Program

Focuses on Disease Prevention and Health Promotion for adults aged 60 and older. Services are evidence-based and demonstrated through evaluation to be effective for improving the health and well-being or reducing disease, disability and/or injury among older adults.

Legal assistance for residents 60 years or older. Provides legal education and legal assistance with Social Security (Medicare/Medi-Cal questions), SSI, wills, trusts and real property.

Senior Nutrition Program
